Pyromancy (Fire)

Pyromancy is the magic of controlling fire and heat.

Please note that example uses are only suggestions, and magical spells can be anything that fits with the specialisation.

Alteration

Only you can start forest fires!Pyromancy Alteration is the power to control heat, fire and light, twisting fire and flame to your own ends.

  • Novice - you are able to manipulate and control small fires and sources of light.
    Examples: shaping small flames to create visible patterns, lighting a match, dimming the ceiling light.
  • Apprentice - you are able to manipulate and control moderate fires and sources of light.
    Examples: stifling (or enhancing) the flames licking at a burning house, heating fuel to the point of combustion, shading yourself from the sun.
  • Adept - you are able to manipulate and control large fires and sources of light.
    Examples: directing the ebb and flow of a large forest fire, plunging a large room into darkness.
  • Master - you are able to manipulate and control very large fires and sources of light.
    Examples: twist a huge fire into an army of flaming soldiers, turning a dying house-fire into a firestorm, transforming candlelight into an intense, blinding spotlight.

Enchantment

"Hrmph, a phoenix is the best you could come up with, darling? At least try for a salamander or a dragon or something."Pyromancy Evocation manifests in the ability to conjure fire and shadow spirits of varying sizes and strengths and have them embody items, potions, shadows or fires.

  • Novice - you can summon and enchant items and potions with minor fire and shadow spirits.
    Examples: conjuring a spirit to sit happily in a log fireplace or to slightly light a dark place, phasing out your light switches in favour of shadow spirits, enchanting a hat to warm your head in the middle of winter.
  • Apprentice - you can summon and enchant items and potions with mid-level fire and shadow spirits.
    Examples: conjuring a spirit that can travel along gas pipes or through a fire to a destination, keeping an eye on a friend or foe by inhabiting a lamp or a dark corner, enchanting a potion to let the user breathe fire for half a short while, enchanting boots to allow you to move slightly faster.
  • Adept - you can summon and enchant items and potions with major fire and shadow spirits.
    Examples: conjuring a guardian spirit to assist you in alteration and help defend against adversaries with small fireballs, enchanting a sword to be bathed in fire and singe all it touches.
  • Master - you can summon and enchant items and potions with incredibly powerful fire and shadow spirits.
    Examples: summoning a burning Ifrit to reign down destruction, creating a shadow demon to terrify your foes, enchanting a pair of glasses to grant vision where there's no light at all, enchanting a potion to create huge clouds of flame and destruction when its vial is shattered.

Evocation

"Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for an hour. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."Pyromancy Evocation is the wielding of scorching magical flame and light in battle.

NB: Fire created in this way is temporary, and will dissipate quickly when left alone.

  • Novice - you can cast minor offensive fire spells.
    Examples: creating and hurling small clusters of fire for short distances, instantly starting small fires.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level offensive fire spells.
    Examples: throwing reasonably sized balls of fire a fair distance, igniting friends and enemies for fun and profit, creating darkness in front of your foe.
  • Adept - you can cast major offensive fire spells.
    Examples: creating significant pyrotechnics and explosions from (mostly) safe distances.
  • Master - you can cast incredibly powerful fire spells.
    Examples: covering an area in a colossal conflagration.

Illusion

Michael Bay: Secret Pyro Illusionist.Pyromancy Illusion is the power to daze, bewilder and terrify with mirages and tricks of the light.

  • Novice - you can cast minor fire illusion spells.
    Examples: distracting security with bright flashes, loud noises and smoke, causing a small crowd to look over in one direction.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level fire illusion spells.
    Examples: hiding in a thick smoky fog, using a mirage to hide an object (or show an object that isn't there) from peripheral vision that crumbles under closer inspection.
  • Adept - you can cast major fire illusion spells.
    Examples: waking an entire apartment block to the loud bang of gunshots, creating a difficult to distinguish mirage of something not there, hiding a small group of people from being seen from a few feet away.
  • Master - you can cast incredibly powerful fire illusion spells.
    Examples: appearing to burn to cinders and be carried away on the wind, creating a visceral apparition that speaks to someone in another's voice, creating the illusion of a huge castle that holds until viewed from inches away.

Protection

"Damn, I knew I'd left the chip pan on..."Pyromancy Protection is the power to use fire to protect, preserve and to a limited extent heal.

  • Novice - you can cast minor fire protection spells.
    Examples: feeling no pain when brushing against a pan of boiling water, cauterising small wounds and treating frostbite.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level fire protection spells.
    Examples: recovering quickly from bad burns and scalds, flooding small spaces with light to protect from darkness, evaporating water to save a drowning person, speed up someone's running speed to that of a professional distance runner.
  • Adept - you can cast major fire protection spells.
    Examples: diminishing and delaying the destructive effects of fire without putting it out, creating a huge wall of flames to separate aggressors from your friends, precisely targeting and burning cancerous cells in a patient (with manageable consequences for neighbouring healthy cells).
  • Master - you can cast incredibly powerful fire protection spells.
    Examples: surrounding yourself with a suit of flames that protects you from assault, burning away unfriendly projectiles and spells, rendering yourself completely immune to damage from natural flame, speed up someone's running speed to that of a world-class sprint runner.
