Safiya DeMonfort: Eternity

As the first ever magical Home Secretary, Safiya DeMonfort was a role model for many who followed after her - a resolute woman, willing to engage in public debate but always determined to win the argument in the end. She effectively grew up in the Government, becoming an MP at a very young age and honing her skills on the Opposition benches for many years before the tide of politics finally swung her to power. In her early political years, she was careful to espouse true equality and unity between Wytches and the non-magical population, and it was only in her later years that rumours regarding her opinions on Wytch Supremacy began to circulate. She weathered these with some disdain, making the controversial but oft-quoted statement that of course Wytches and Norms are equal, but that this takes into account the vast number of Norms being of equal value to the country as the minority population of Wytches.

Not all of her initiatives were successful, of course: for example, HMMR remained an enforcement agency separate from the non-magical police force despite her arguments for its dissolution, but considerable integration of their working practices was achieved to bring HMMR up to the modern day. DeMonfort also introduced the first specific Wytch Crimes Act, covering offences against the greater magical community which were not previously covered by the Reasonable Freedom Act because they had no bearing on the Norm world - things such as draining another person's magic, or destroying sources of magical energy.

However, she never let such grand ambitions as these distract her from the smaller stories of the common people. She publicly donated to a fund for the bereaved relatives of HMMR employees killed in previous Wytch violence as a gesture of goodwill from the magical community, as well as ensuring the legal status of magical charitable organisations such as WytchWatch and the Magical Children's Refuge. Truly, her legacy is an inspiring one for any aspiring young lawmaker.
