Sanguimancy (Blood)

Sanguimancy is the magic of controlling the blood of living beings. It is one of the Occult Schools of Magic, of which little is widely known. As such, any book research you are able to do will only reliably inform you of the abilities of the lower levels of the sub-schools, as listed below. Details of more powerful spells may have to be sought from practitioners who know more…

Once you have spent an action altering your magic pool to cast Sanguimancy you may consider the whole school “unlocked” and can continue spending points as normal.

Please note that example uses are only suggestions, and magical spells can be anything that fits with the specialisation.

Alteration

Sanguimancy Alteration manifests in the manipulation of blood and flesh to alter the form or behaviour of the subject. It should be noted that this is a gradual process, not usable in a fight, and can be painful or dangerous for the subject if the Wytch's concentration slips.

  • Novice - you are capable of manipulating the form and behaviour of individual small animals.
Examples: transfiguring a rat into a weasel, making a mouse hang around in open landscape in broad daylight in sight of a hawk.
  • Apprentice - you are capable of manipulating the form and behaviour of larger animals, or multiple small ones.
Examples: turning a dog into a cat for hilarity, turning a horse into a different-looking horse for race-fixing, making an elephant stampede through a procession and take up residence in a library.

Enchantment

Sanguimancy Enchantment manifests in the creations of items or potions that can manipulate blood and flesh.

  • Novice - you can summon and enchant items and potions with minor blood spirits.
Examples: Enchant the evocation spell of sudden dizziness into a party hat, because pratfalls are funny.
  • Apprentice - you can summon and enchant items and potions with mid-level blood spirits.
Examples: Enchant a protective spell into an amulet to heal any moderate stab wounds someone experiences while wearing it.

Evocation

Sanguimancy Evocation manifests in the ability to create temporary changes in the bloodflow of an opponent, as well as being able to use blood offensively.

  • Novice - you can cast low-level offensive blood magic.
Examples: Make your opponent dizzy with a head rush, or form some of your own blood into darts to cast at them.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level offensive blood magic.
Examples: Manipulate your opponent's blood to cause physical weakness or minor internal bleeding, form a large amount of your own blood into a sword which you can wield mentally.

Illusion

Sanguimancy Illusion manifests in the ability to affect vision and memory with bloodflow, as well as the ability to temporarily force blood to mould your own flesh to appear different.

  • Novice - you can cast minor blood illusions.
Examples: cast a spell that gives someone blind spots in their vision for a few minutes, slightly alter the appearance of your own face for a few minutes.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level blood illusions.
Examples: cast a spell that makes someone entirely blind for a little while, confuse someone's memory of recent events, completely change the appearance of your face for an hour.

Protection

Sanguimancy Protection manifests in the ability to heal the body with blood, relying on blood's life-sustaining properties.

  • Novice - you can cast minor protective blood spells.
Examples: heal minor external or internal wounds, 'feel' the body through the blood to diagnose any obvious magical disease.
  • Apprentice - you can cast mid-level protective blood spells.
Examples: knit a serious gut wound back together with no side effects, heal blood poisoning.
