Kaomancy (Chaos)

Kaomancy is the magic of amplifying the power of your own spells to exponential levels. It is one of the Occult Schools of Magic, of which little is widely known. As such, any book research you are able to do will only reliably inform you of the abilities of the lower levels of the sub-schools, as listed below. Details of more powerful spells may have to be sought from practitioners who know more…

Once you have spent a point into any subfield of Kaomancy you may consider the whole school “unlocked” and can continue spending points as normal.

Please note that example uses are only suggestions, and magical spells can be anything that fits with the specialisation.

Alteration

Alteration Kaomancers conduct their spells through other Wytches to increase their power, drawing their pools of magic to build upon their own.

  • Novice - you can conduct a spell of Novice level through up to 3 people, multiplying the power of your spell by 3.
Examples: conducting a small bolt lightning through seven people in order to make it seven times as powerful…
  • Apprentice - you can conduct a spell of Novice or Apprentice level through up to 9 people, multiplying the power of your spell by 9.
Examples: using a crowd of people around you to turn your small fireball into an enormous one. Warning: texts suggest that pushing power past this level could have unforeseen consequences.

Enchantment

Kaomancy Enchantment manifests in the summoning of spirits that can themselves summon more spirits.

  • Novice - spirits you have summoned can themselves summon up to three spirits. (4 spirits total).
Examples: summoning an arcane spirit of a lion which itself bursts into three more lions.
  • Apprentice - spirits summoned by your spirit can themselves summon up to three spirits. (13 spirits total)
Examples: summoning fire sprites which multiply into a small army. Warning: texts suggest that pushing power beyond this level may have unforeseen consequences.

Evocation

Kaomancy Evocation manifests in the ability to augment your own evocation to target multiple targets with ease, or to multiply the power of an existing evocation spell.

  • Novice - you can triple (x3) the number of targets your spell would hit, or you can triple the power of your spell aimed at a single target.
Examples: hitting all three of Harry, Ron and Hermione with a curse at the same time, making your own fireball three times more powerful.
  • Apprentice - you can nonuple (x9) the number of targets your spell would hit, or you can nonuple the power of your spell aimed at a single target.
Examples: giving a whole bunch of people a nasty electric shock, or making your arcane bolts seem like SciFi turbolasers rather than military grade ones. Warning: texts suggest that pushing power beyond this level may have unforeseen consequences.

Illusion

Kaomancy Illusion manifests in the ability to create many more and far more realistic illusions.

  • Novice - your illusions are three times as powerful as before, becoming far more convincing and far more terrifying.
Examples: creating three independent illusions of ninjas, hiding an entire house with invisibility.
  • Apprentice - your illusions are nine times as powerful as before, becoming incredibly convincing and very autonomous.
Examples: creating nine separate illusions of people's faces having changed, making it next to impossible to see through an illusion. Warning: texts suggest that pushing power beyond this level may have unforeseen consequences.

Protection

Kaomancy Protection manifests in the ability to protect numerous targets at once with incredibly powerful protection spells.

  • Novice - your protective spells can affect three times as many targets, or are three times as powerful as they would be otherwise.
Examples: defending all of your trio of adventurers from danger, protecting against high level evocation.
  • Apprentice - your protective spells can affect nine times as many targets, or are nine times as powerful as they would be otherwise.
Examples: protecting an entire company of adventurers from danger, healing previously thought impossible diseases. Warning: texts suggest that pushing power beyond this level may have unforeseen consequences.
